Sociedad Peruana de Derecho Ambiental (SPDSociedad Peruana de Derecho Ambiental (SPDA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the care and protection of the environment, founded in 1986. Today, SPDA plays a leading role in advancing environmental policy, informed by environmental science, in Peru and works closely with local and Indigenous communities throughout the country. SPDA's work has inspired change not only within Peru but also beyond Peru's borders. As part of its mission, SPDA carries out research on public policies and environmental legislation; strengthens the capacities of the public sector, civil society and especially vulnerable populations; promotes dialogue; and generates spaces for citizen participation, education, information and scientific research. The organization works towards a culture that defends citizens’ best interests, as well as disseminates and guarantees the right of every person to a healthy environment. To this end, SPDA has five main initiatives and programs: Biodiversity and Indigenous Peoples, Forests and Ecosystem Services, Environmental Policy and Governance, Marine Governance, and the “Conservamos por Naturaleza” (“We Conserve by Nature”) campaign. SPDA’s work also extends beyond these programs and includes developing a series of activities regarding education, training and training in environmental matters. In order to work at the local level as well as the national policy level, SPDA has decentralized offices in Loreto and Madre de Dios, in addition to two offices in Lima.
