Description/notes

"Hand in Hand Zimbabwe is a non-profit Private-Voluntary-Organization (PVO13\19) with a vision to build socio-economic resilient communities. Our mission is to alleviate poverty amongst vulnerable people especially women and youth through capacity development, sustainable entrepreneurship, and partnerships for sustainable development. The vehicle we use to achieve sustainable and inclusive rural development is grassroots entrepreneurship. Headquartered in Bulawayo and operating in seven districts the organization has mobilized more than 23726 people into 2663 Self- help Groups and trained 20947 people in entrepreneurship, starting up close to 14 000 profitable and sustainable enterprises.

Inequality is both the result of and a reason for poverty, and women and girls feel the brunt of its impact. Our interventions mitigate on teenage pregnancy, gender-based violence, and transmission of diseases that affect women’s well-being and rights and help women control their own economies that benefits household.

We support poor marginalized and vulnerable people (women and youth) in rural and peri -urban communities to create better livelihoods for themselves and their families. We help women and youth living in poverty to beat the odds and succeed in being self-reliant and self-sufficient through entrepreneurship. We believe that if women are empowered, it benefits the entire household and provides social and financial independence. Women’s economic empowerment is therefore our core objective in fighting poverty and inequality for community well-being. Our tested entrepreneurship strategy delivers financial literacy, business acumen and market-linkages. Our entrepreneurship trainings for youth combine business acumen with marketing and tailor-made vocational training with networking opportunities to assist them in accessing employment, health awareness training with a special focus on preventing sexually transmitted diseases. Life skills such as self- motivation, self-respect and communication skills are included in the trainings, and contribute both towards an entrepreneurial spirit as well as how to make choices for living a safe and productive life. The organization provide technical training of SHG farm entrepreneurs on sustainable land resource management techniques such as conservation farming, water harvesting, tree planting, agroforestry, crop rotation, mulching, and organic farming. SHG members will be continuously sensitized about green technology solutions and renewable energy sources that are appropriate to their businesses. We will strive to establish ‘green’ investment funds in our projects/programmes that will enable access to affordable finance for investments in green technology by the entrepreneurs.
