ISDE Bangladesh has been implementing a number of activities to respond to the climate change issues of the targeted people and it has integrated the climate change issues with its ongoing programme. It has become an active member of Climate Action Network-South Asia (CANSA), Campaign for Sustainable Rural Livelihoods-CSRL and NGO Coordination Council for Climate Change (NC4) networks. ISDE integrated nature and conservation education, the livelihood of hardcore and coastal communities, especially the fishing communities, disaster risk reduction, agricultural, coastal fishing community development programme etc with its normal programme in Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar and Chittagong hill tracts districts.
ISDE is implementing Community-based Climate Resilience Initiatives in Coastal Areas of Bangladesh’ In Chakaria Upazila under Cox’s Bazar coastal areas with the support of WJR UK from April 2022. This is a pilot project for 10 months and later it will continue for further years. The major activities under this project is Awareness Raising on climate vulnerabilities and risk, Distribution of IEC Materials to the community peoples, Developing self-help group(SHG) with coastal communities and enhancing the capacity of the coastal communities to cope with the climate vulnerabilities and risk, Develop Climate Vulnerability and Capacity Assessment for coastal unions of Chakaria, Cox’s Bazar, Build capacity of climate vulnerable peoples to resolve livelihoods, Provide alternative livelihood support to selected climate vulnerable peoples, Build capacity of local government institutions, CSOs on climate responsive development.
ISDE also become an active member of the Bangladesh Working Group on External Debt (BWGED) and the Global Network of Civil Society Organisations for Disaster Reduction (GNDR). Under this, it's playing an important role to organize advocacy issues on disaster risk reduction, climate vulnerability and risk, infrastructure monitoring of climate and energy-related development projects, energy rights, pricing, promoting renewable and green energy, water logging, hill cutting and landslide-related issues. ISDE develop some local actors to drive resilience-building actions at the frontline.
