Sahabat Alam Malaysia – Friends of the Earth Malaysia (SAM), is an independent non-profit national organisation established in 1977 in Malaysia. SAM's objective is to ensure that development choices and management of natural resources are sustainable and ecologically sound, guided by the principles of environmental justice. SAM's programme on climate change is focused on raising awareness of climate change and its impacts, as well as the monitoring and implementation of the government’s national climate action plans and policies, consistent with the country’s obligations under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Paris Agreement. This work is focused on ensuring that the country is able to contribute towards limiting the global temperature rise to well below 1.5°C from pre-industrial levels, increase its ability to adapt to the adverse impacts of climate change and foster climate resilience and low greenhouse gas emissions development. This work is approached from a climate justice perspective, which views climate change within a political framework that seeks equity for all.
